Scope of Work
• Installation of heavy-duty cable trays and support structures
• Motor cabling installation (0.75kW to 110kW) with EMC screening
• Cat6A Control cabling for high-speed data communications
• Installation of a 1200kVA Generator Set for primary power
• Commissioning of Motor Control Centres (MCC) and VSDs
• Ongoing maintenance and breakdown support
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge
The remote Geraldton site lacked mains power, requiring the entire installation and commissioning phase to rely solely on a 1200kVA generator — adding significant logistical constraints to testing, sequencing and ongoing operation. Coordinating the delivery and connection of heavy processing machinery in a regional location, alongside variable speed drive commissioning on generator power, demanded meticulous planning and adaptable execution from the electrical team.
Solution
CPR meticulously planned the power distribution from the 1200kVA generator to ensure stable commissioning of all drives and motors, accounting for inrush currents, harmonic management and sequential startup requirements. Our rapid mobilisation allowed machinery to be connected within days of arrival on site. The team's experience in regional and remote electrical installations ensured all works were completed safely and efficiently despite the distance from Perth supply chains and support infrastructure.
Project Outcome
The Hay Press facility is now fully operational and highly productive. The project was delivered deficient-free, on time, and under budget, leading to an ongoing maintenance partnership with Al Dahra.
