Overview

CPR Electrical delivered the complete electrical installation and commissioning of a purpose-built recycling plant for Eco Resources, designed to process general construction waste by separating metal and lightweight materials for hand sorting. The plant spans over 80 metres in length with a running load of approximately 400 amps, powered by a 400kVA generator with a sequential start mechanism to manage current draw during startup.

CPR managed the entire installation scope including SWA cables on cable trays and plant structures, coordinating with Metroid Electrical Engineers (a national partner of Skala) who supplied and commissioned the Motor Control Centre (MCC).

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge

Coordinating the electrical installation of an 80-metre recycling plant alongside concurrent civil and mechanical construction activities required precise staging and sequencing to avoid trade conflicts and delays. The generator-powered system — running approximately 400 amps through a 400kVA generator — demanded careful load management through sequential start design to prevent overload during startup, requiring the electrical design to account for inrush currents across multiple conveyors, shakers and blowers starting in sequence.

Solution

CPR synchronised installation works with Skala's construction schedule, completing electrical fit-out in each section as it was built to minimise overall project duration. The sequential start system was engineered and tested to ensure reliable startup under full load conditions, with SWA cables installed on cable trays and plant structures throughout the 80-metre facility. Coordination with Metroid Electrical Engineers for MCC commissioning was managed seamlessly, delivering the project with zero variations, zero incidents and zero near misses.
